Justice is defined as ‘the principle that people receive that which they deserve.’ But in cases of sexual assault, what people deserve is sadly often not what they receive. In her talk, she discusses different forms of justice and how each of us can best show support for survivors of sexual assault. Officer Jasmine Merricks is the Victim Witness Coordinator for the VCU Police Department in Richmond, VA. She has been an officer with the VCU Police Department since 2017. In 2021, she received the IACP 40 Under 40 award for her working with and helping survivors of sexual assault and violent crimes. Officer Merricks is a Virginia native who enjoys the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
