What is the difference between news reporting and news commentary?
In this video I discuss the difference between "news reporting" and "news commentary." I suggest that a common way this distinction is described by news professionals is, in the end, misleading; and I offer an alternative account of this distinction. The discussion returns us to an essential distinction in Critical Thinking: the difference between arguments and non-argumentative language. I suggest that thinking critically about the news means, at minimum, being aware of two different, and potentially conflicting conceptions of the news. The first is the "Entertainment Model" and the second is the "Information model."
