2003 GMC C5500 Topkick - Custom Built Moving Truck Walk Around - At The 14Th Annual Watt's Truck Center Truck, Car and Equipment Show In this video we take our fully restored 2003 GMC C5500 Topkick custom moving truck to the 14th annual Watt's Truck Center truck, car, and equipment show. This show took place on August 21, 2021 in New Alexandria, PA. We designed and purchased this truck brand new in 2003 to be used for piano moving and small local city moves. A year later in September of 2004 hurricane Ivan dumped a record 5.95 inches of rain on the Pittsburgh region. This heavy rainfall flooded many low lying regions of Pittsburgh, including the small town of Etna, PA. Etna is a borough in Allegheny County along the Allegheny River, opposite Pittsburgh. Parts of Etna saw up to five feet of flood water during this down poor. This flood proved to be catastrophic for many local businesses and families. Unfortunately, this truck was sitting at the GMC dealership in Etna when the flood water began to rise. The truck was damaged in the flood and our insurance company deemed it a total loss. After the flood, the truck was sent to auction never be seen again, or so we thought. In 2018 we began the search for a new 18ft moving van to use for piano moving. Piano moving is a large part of what we do, so we needed a truck that would accommodate piano moving and still be versatile enough for small local moves as well. During the search I had this truck in the back of my mind as a reference point. One day while looking at an online auction site, I came across a green GMC. I thought to myself, "Wow! That looks just like our old truck, and it's even green! We wont even need to paint it." As I looked closer I couldn't believe my eyes. Could it be true? I rubbed my eyes and did a double take. "Yes!" I exclaimed, "That's our old truck!" All of the graphics had been removed, but I could clearly see our name and logo sun baked into the paint. It was faint but I couldn't mistake the faded tree stump logo and our name (Stumpf) in big letters across the body of the truck. The truck was up for auction in Philidelphia, PA. So, I told my family what I had found, and we arranged to see it in person. This was almost too good to be true, and we needed to see it to believe it. Upon arrival we noticed the truck needed some TLC. However, the frame was solid, and the body was dry. Best of all the truck only had 50,000 miles and the motor ran well! The construction company only put 30,000 miles on the truck during the almost 15 years that they owned it. We still couldn't believe that the motor had no issues, so I took the truck for a short test drive. After the test drive I knew right away we needed to bid on it and bring it home where it belonged. After purchasing the truck back we found out it was purchased at auction by a construction company from New Jersey. For almost fifteen years this truck was used by that construction company as a tool shed. They even welded all of the doors shut! As we began cleaning the truck, we found the original dealer plate behind the bench seat. The truck was full of little surprises that made it feel as if this situation was meant to be. We even began calling it "The Prodigal Son". After getting it back we had a full restoration done on the truck. A new paint job was done by Kirsopp Body Shop and new graphics where done by Autograph Signs. Both companies did the original work on the truck! Small things such as replacing the passenger mirror and both mud flaps where don ourselves. We even rented a floor sander and refinished all of the interior floors, and topped it off with a high gloss polyurethane. The truck floors now rival the shine of an NBA court. All kidding aside, this truck really is "The Prodigal Son". We are extremely happy to have it back, and love taking it to truck shows. Hopefully you enjoyed this video as much as we did.
