Phillip Sear plays a once-popular song without words by Carl Reber, from around 1900. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- At first I thought that "Carl Reber" was almost certainly a pseudonym for someone who wanted to publish Germanic salon music somewhat in the style of Gustave Lange in the UK in the early 1900s. However, a viewer has kindly informed me that he was actually Karl Reber, the music director of the Cafe Rieall in Vienna. This piece was once popular, as was the verse that is printed over the coda (superimposed on the video): "When we recall fond memories dear. Which cling to us from year to year. Of bygone days in lands afar. Those memories sweet, how dear they are: Remembrance." The words (probably by Reber) were sometimes used in obituary notices in the early 1900s. My thumbnail features the title page design of the copy I used. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------- Played by Phillip Sear http://www.psear.co.uk (Email: [email protected] WhatsApp: http://wa.me/441444483794 ) TikTok: / pianogems
