The Asamkirche (officially St.-Maria-de-Victoria-Kirche) is a baroque church in Ingolstadt, which was designed by the brothers Cosmas Damian and Egid Quirin Asam during the peak of their artistic career. The construction of the building, designed as a meeting room and oratory for the Marian student congregation of the University of Ingolstadt, began with the laying of the foundation stone on April 30, 1732. The foundation stone was laid by the then rector of the university, Max Ignaz von Planckh. The congregation was founded in 1577 by the Ingolstadt Jesuit College and initially had its prayer room in the college. With the dissolution of the Jesuit order, the fraternity should now have its own oratory. The architect of the building was Egid Quirin Asam, while Michael Anton Prunthaler was the executive master mason. In 1733 the facades and a year later the interior were stuccoed. Benediction took place on July 1, 1736. In the course of relocating the university to Landshut and as a result of secularization, the Bavarian Elector Maximilian IV Joseph donated the building to the city of Ingolstadt. In 1807 the congregation hall was raised to the status of a church. Während das Äußere der Asamkirche dem Barock verhaftet ist, weist die Ausstattung überwiegend Merkmale des Rokoko auf. Das zentrale Thema des 490 Quadratmeter großen Deckengemäldes ist die Incarnatio Dominica, die Menschwerdung des Herrn. Der heutige Altar stammt wohl aus der Zeit um 1760 und ersetzte wahrscheinlich einen älteren. Das Altarbild datiert aus dem Jahr 1675 und ist somit älter als die Kirche „Maria de Victoria“. Es zeigt die Verkündigung an Maria und wurde von dem Landshuter Künstler Franz Geiger geschaffen. In der Sakristei der Asamkirche wird die sogenannte Lepantomonstranz aufbewahrt. Sie wurde 1708 von dem Augsburger Goldschmied Johannes Zeckl gestaltet und zeigt in einem beispiellosen Detailreichtum die Seeschlacht von Lepanto. Aufgrund ihrer künstlerischen Gestaltung gilt sie als die wertvollste Monstranz der Welt. Daneben befindet sich in der Sakristei das sogenannte Tilly-Kreuz, ein Kreuz, das der Feldherr Johann t’Serclaes von Tilly angeblich auf seinen Feldzügen mitführte.
