News clips of the prosecution of the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) by the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) in 1985 for causing cruelty to monkeys. This prosecution was based on evidence gathered during the raid by sixty activists from the South East Animal Liberation League on the RCS Buckston Browne farm research premises at Downe, Kent on Sunday August 26th 1984 and passed to the BUAV by Mike Huskisson (founder of the Animal Cruelty Investigation Group). On Monday February 18th 1985 the RCS were convicted by Bromley Magistrates of causing unnecessary suffering to Mone, a 10-year-old Macaque monkey found severely dehydrated after temperatures in her cage soared to 92F. They were fined £250. They appealed to Croydon Crown Court and their appeal was dismissed. They then secured Judicial Review of that appeal decision and purely on a legal technicality the RCS were acquitted.
