Pueblo Food Project hosted the Pueblo Food Systems Leadership Awards at the Sun Soil Water Summit on March 14th! ‘Harvest Hero’. It is Pueblo Food Project's honor to present our Harvest Hero Farmer of the Year award to one of the most humble and hardworking people we know. Perdita Butler leads with a good sense of humor and a true love for her craft. Her urban farm, Quarter Acre and a Mule, cranks out impressive yields of produce on the West Side of town - we have enjoyed an abundance of fresh leafy greens, brightly colored radishes, fragrant herbs, garden tomatoes, and so much more from Perdita, who is always excited to share her harvest with the community. Perdita exudes purpose and passion in everything she does. But the extent of her impact doesn't end with the produce she grows. Quarter Acre and a Mule was the anchor farm at the 2024 Eastside Farmers Market. Every week, they supplied an abundance of beautiful, freshly harvested veggies to neighbors on the East Side who otherwise may not have been able to access such foods. Perdita is also committed to bridging the gap between local producers and institutions, supplying veggies to School District 60 so that kids can have more nourishing, locally sourced ingredients in their school meals. Perdita led a collard greens gardening class on Juneteenth last year with PFP, bridging gardening knowledge with African American food traditions together in a remarkable way. Perdita and her farm are a true jewel of our community, and we are so excited to honor Quarter Acre and a Mule Farm as our 2025 Harvest Hero Farmer of the Year!
