Exploring Tamsui Old Street and Riverside Waterfront during the annual Qingshui Patriarch's Temple Tour (淡水清水巖清水祖師遶境). Every year on the fifth and sixth days of the fifth lunar month, Tamsui Qingshui Temple holds a grand circumambulation activity of the Qingshui Patriarch, locally known as "Tamsui's Big Worship" (淡水大拜拜 ). This ritual originated during the Japanese colonial period when Tamsui area was plagued with disease. Local residents welcomed Patriarch Qingshui to drive away the plague. During the procession, every household will prepare an incense burner to welcome the gods, and invite relatives and friends to participate in the grand ceremony to pray for the safety of the place. Tamsui or Danshui (淡水) is a district located in New Taipei City, Taiwan. Situated at the northern tip of Taiwan, Tamsui is easily accessible from Taipei via the Tamsui-Xinyi MRT line. The area was originally inhabited by the Ketagalan indigenous people before becoming a hub for international trade and cultural exchange with the arrival of the Spanish and Dutch in the 17th century. Today, visitors can explore Tamsui's Old Street (淡水老街), a vibrant thoroughfare lined with shops and food stalls offering local delicacies, or take a leisurely stroll along the river promenade to enjoy the scenic views.
