The Worst "Faith Alone" Proof Text in the Bible

In this video, I dismantle the most common evangelical proof text for “faith alone”: the Good Thief on the cross in Luke 23:39–43. People claim the thief proves baptism is unnecessary, works don’t matter, and the Church and sacraments are optional. But that reading collapses when you read the passage carefully and distinguish descriptive vs prescriptive Scripture. We also compare the thief to Cornelius in Acts 10, and we look at the New Testament’s normal pattern after the Resurrection: repentance, baptism, and persevering discipleship (Acts 2:38; Acts 22:16; 1 Peter 3:21; Romans 6:3–4). The thief is an extraordinary case of Christ’s mercy — not a loophole that cancels Christ’s commands.
