In this latest TEPSA Explainer created in view of the InDivEU project, TEPSA project manager Giulia Bonacquisti and European University Institute (EUI) researcher Stefan Telle go through the details of differentiated integration: policy implications, as well as the main pros and cons. They are also joined by two special guests to explain the basics of differentiated integration: what it means, why it is necessary, and where it already exists. Former Finnish Prime Minister Alexander Stubb, who now serves as the Director of EUI’s School of Transnational Governance explains his analysis of differentiated integration as being made up of three parts: “time, space, and matter”, while Brigid Laffan, Director of the Robert Schuman Centre at EUI, explains the differences between internal, external, and hybrid forms of differentiation.
