When the monarch traveled through the region, this fortress-turned-palace served as his secondary residence, a place where royal life briefly touched these quiet lands. Built in the 16th and 17th centuries as a defensive stronghold, it was later reshaped in the 19th century into an elegant neo-Renaissance home. Grand façades, carved staircases, and ornate halls replaced the battlements, creating a residence truly fit for nobility. But after more than seventy years of abandonment, the roofs are failing, the gardens have grown wild, and the walls slowly crumble. Still, its silhouette continues to radiate the grandeur of its royal past. After the Second World War, a provincial family used it as a seasonal retreat, but rising costs and inheritance disputes forced them to walk away. By the late 1950s, even the caretaker was gone, leaving the castle to slip quietly into ruin. Later in this video, we’ll show you the abandoned bedroom believed to have once been used by King Louis XVIII himself, as we uncover the forgotten story of this royal residence. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SOCIALS: TikTok ► / brosofdecay Instagram ► / brosofdecay Facebook ► / brothersofdecay ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Support us: Merch ► https://www.brosofdecay.com Patreon ► / brosofdecay Paypal ► https://paypal.me/lesleyhouben
