Dowry remains one of India’s deadliest social evils, claiming thousands of lives every year. In 2022 alone, over 6,400 dowry-related deaths and 13,000+ cases under the Dowry Prohibition Act were recorded, with Uttar Pradesh and Bihar leading the list. Other states like Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Rajasthan, Haryana, and West Bengal also report alarming numbers. Shockingly, every single hour, a woman in India dies because of dowry. Despite strict laws like the Dowry Prohibition Act (1961), Section 304B for dowry death, and Section 498A for cruelty, weak enforcement, delayed trials, and low conviction rates continue to undermine justice. Tackling dowry requires more than laws—it demands awareness, societal change, and a shift in mindsets. Dowry is not tradition; it is a crime, and ending it is a responsibility we all must share. #nextias #upsc #currentaffairs #dowry #stopdowry #indiawomens #womenrights #dowryprohibitionact #section498a #crimeagainstwomen #genderequality #socialjustice #humanrightsindia #shorts #youtubeshorts #viralshorts
