Hurtigruten - The fabulous Northern Lights January journey 2026

What a tour in January! We started under cloudy skies, not unusual for Bergen. The sun was more active than it had been in weeks. We were hoping to see the Northern Lights as we headed north. But the clouds had other ideas. We were probably meant to enjoy the scenery first, as the sky didn't clear. Nevertheless, we were happy. On day 8, our patience was rewarded, and after departing from Øksfjord, the Northern Lights danced across the sky. But we didn't yet know what would happen on day 9. After departing from Stamsund, it finally happened. The Northern Lights were so intense that we were able to film them in real time. What an experience! Even on day 10, the Northern Lights danced for us once more. This time, we disembarked in Trondheim, heading south.
