The stock market finished deeply in the red on Wednesday after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell delivered his speech on the economy amid the ongoing war with Iran. The Fed held interest rates steady, but signaled that rates could rise if economic uncertainty continues. This is the second time the Fed kept rates on hold, which is currently at 3.6%. Officials said rising gas prices from the Iran conflict may briefly boost inflation but are not expected to have lasting economic effects. The Fed projects inflation around 2.7% this year while expecting steady growth and unemployment at about 4.4%.
