Way back in 2010 after pulling the Denver Post Cheyenne Frontier Days train on Saturday. While the national LCCA (Lionel Collectors Club of America ) convention was in Denver. The usual Sunday return was delayed a day. So a convention special could be created. The tender was re-lettered "Lionel Lines" for the return from Denver, CO to Cheyenne, WY. Such a historic event the club still has a web page UP of the event. "Monday - The final full week of July 2010 was the time frame for the LCCA annual Convention – our 40th anniversary event. The week began with a train ride in Union Pacific’s Heritage fleet of passenger cars pulled by their famous 4-8-4 steam engine #844 accompanied by DD40X, Centennial diesel #6936, as a back-up if needed." And on July 26, 2010 the Lionel Lines # 844 departed north to Cheyenne, WY. Following the departure of Amtrak's California Zephyr. The Lionel Lines special backs past Coors field baseball stadium, and was eased back into Union Station in Denver for boarding. Under the shade of the viaduct, I have to change a flat tire as the Lionel Lines departs northbound. Fortunately we were able to catch her again at the Sand Creek trestle & Rocky Mountain Recycling in Commerce City, Brighton, Ft. Lupton, Platteville, Gilcrest, La Salle, and Evans before briefly stopping to grease the rods in Greeley. Then charging northbound for Eaton, Ault, Pierce, Nunn and finally Carr, CO before heading across the Terry Ranch where the buffalo roam and across the Wyoming border headed to Speer junction. West of Cheyenne by Dyna-Nobel the mighty northern glides thru the curves as the USAF Thunderbirds are in the sky! Lionel Lines unloads her passengers at the historic Cheyenne, WY station as the train is uncoupled from the locomotives before the LCCA tour buses drive away. The locomotives are then taken to the UP Steam Shops in the Cheyenne UP yard across the mains from the station. https://www.lionelcollectors.org/annu...
