This lecture examines the historical, religious, and esoteric significance of Diana, one of the most complex deities of the Roman world. From her Italic origins and her role in the Latin League to her later syncretism with Artemis and associations with lunar magic, Diana’s worship evolved across diverse religious, political, and cultural contexts. We will explore the rituals performed in her honour, including the Nemoralia and the enigmatic succession of the Rex Nemorensis, as well as her enduring presence in medieval demonology, early modern witchcraft, and contemporary Paganism. Drawing from academic sources, this discussion highlights Diana’s role as a liminal deity, protector of the disenfranchised, and embodiment of divine sovereignty and feminine power.
