Full Circle: Amir Bey and Friends - an exhibition Sculptor Amir Bey documented the faces of people around him in the 80s and 90s: artists, activists, musicians, dancers, gallerists, scholars, and friends/family at large With an astounding capacity for remembering details, he tells of their lives, their work, and his relationship to each person. They're friends, collaborators, his son, his wife, his parents. He took a face cast of each person, and created an original imprint. Then he produced creative versions in various media using clay, plaster, feathers, shells, glass. He also combined the faces of several people in a number of pieces. The exhibit will present these masks, as well as artworks by the artists represented. Documentation will be available about all the people in Amir Bey's circle: artists, musicians, gallerists, dancers, activists, scholars. This is a precious document of a period where discrimination and prejudice were omnipresent, and Amir Bey and his friends formed a tight circle of resistance. Amir Bey is a New York City-based mixed media artist who has shown internationally, including Japan, Turkey, France, Martinique, and Germany. His work has been exhibited in a number of galleries and institutions including the Bronx Museum of Art. Video was shot in Amir Bey's Bronx studio.
