This piece is composed using compositional techniques that draw on the tradition karnatic music, from South India, merged with the styles of contemporary western music. The piece experiments with the expressive techniques of the "Recorders", flutes of different sizes and timbres, whose instrumental possibilities transcend the typical baroque contex, offering exceptional timbral possibilities. The music appears like a 'Doppio Duo'. Not being a proper quartet, it's more a counterpoint between the two couples of instruments. Piano and harp have a more rhythmical function than the two recorders; these last focus more on the melody. Both 'duos' derive their materials from an indian 'raga' called Salagam, which is presented in each duo by two different versions. As the two recorders will play the original (microtonal) version of the raga, piano and harp will work around the same sounds in the 12-tone equal tempered system. Counterpoint of colours and dialogues and their interaction will suggest the flow of the music. It was performed in world premiere at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam on 11th june 2009.
