Zaireeka is a 1997 release by the Flaming Lips. It's an experimental rock album consisting of four CDs meant to be played in four CD players simultaneously. I have set it up twice and it is quite the listening experience. Most mixdowns, though, just lay the music from all four CDs on of each other. I did this mixdown in either 2009 or 2010, but did it to replicate in stereo as best as possible the experience of listening to four CD players at once. Thus, the left channel of CD 1 is in the far left, with the right channel phased slightly to the right of that. Left channel of CD 2 is phased further right, with the right channel just left of center. CD 3 has the left channel just right of center, the right channel phased slightly to the right of that, while CD 4 is phased with the left channel slightly to the right and the right channel to the extreme right. The middle has a slight gap to represent the fact there would be gap between CD players, but it's probably not noticeable while listening. The reason for the spoken numbers was to keep the CDs in sync. CD players, just like turntables, have slight variations in speed, and while trying to play them at the same time this becomes noticeable. Often when playing the album as intended it is necessary to pause everything so it will sync up properly, since after about three songs it becomes quite noticeable. This makes for a great headphone experience but be warned that "How Will We Know? (Futuristic Crashendos)" has high-pitched tones to purposely cause disorientation in the listener. Listening to the song on normal volume can affect those with tinnitus and can cause some hearing damage if listened to at loud volumes. Here is the breakdown of the songs: 0:00 Okay I'll Admit I Really Don't Understand 2:52 Riding to Work in the Year 2025 (Your Invisible Now) 9:53 Thirty-Five Thousand Feet of Despair 14:51 A Machine in India 25:14 The Train Runs Over the Camel But Is Derailed by the Gnat 31:27 How Will We Know? (Futuristic Crashendos) 33:50 March of the Rotten Vegetables 40:19 The Big Ol' Bug Is the New Baby Now
