There are no words to describe how extraordinary the Ferrari 550 GTS Maranello Prodrive is. Thanks to the kindness of the guys of the Racing Legend Service team who provided us with superb onboard footage, we are pleased to show you this video made during the 2020 Monza Historic. With only 10 units built, specifically, the 550 GTS in question is chassis number 117110, Prodrive decided to take over the Ferrari GT car project after the previous results, encouraging for the potential but unfortunate for the failures, which initial specimens built by Italtecnica had highlighted. Prodrive decided to beef up the naturally aspirated V12 engine by increasing the displacement to 6.0-Liters and positioning it lower and towards the centre of the car for better weight distribution. The engine, limited by the restrictions imposed by the regulation, develops 600hp at 6,400 rpm with 600Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm, a sequential 6-speed XTrac gearbox takes care of it. A specific and efficient aerodynamic package was, therefore created. With the extensive use of carbon fibre, the weight decreased to 1,100Kg as per FIA regulations, removing over 500Kg from the road-derived car. This 550 GTS model was built in 2004 and took 4th place in its category at the 24h of Le Mans that same year and continued to race in various championships such as the FIA ​​GT and the ALMS up to the present day where fortunately for us is possible to see it in action during the races of the Endurance Racing Legends championship organized by Petr Auto. Grazie alla gentilezza dei ragazzi del team Racing Legend Service che ci hanno fornito uno splendido video onboard, abbiamo il piacere di mostravi questo filmato realizzato durante l'edizione 2020 del Monza Historic. Con soli 10 esemplari costruti, nello specifico la 550 GTS in oggetto è la numero di telaio 117110, la Prodrive decise di prendere in mano il progetto della vettura Ferrari GT dopo i precedenti risultati, incoraggianti per il potenziale ma sfortunati per le rotture, che gli iniziali esemplari costruiti da Italtecnica avevano evidenziato. Prodrive decise di irrobustire il motore V12 aspirato incrementando la cilindrata a 6.0-Litri e posizionandolo più in basso e verso il centro dell'auto per migliore la distribuzione del peso. Il propulsore, limitato dalle restizioni in poste dal regolamento, sviluppa 600cv a 6.400 giri/min con 600Nm di coppia a 5.000 giri/min, per muoverlo ci pensa un cambio sequenziale a 6 rapporti della XTrac. E' stato quindi creato un'apposito ed efficiente pacchetto aerodinamico e con l'ampio uso di fibra di carbonio il peso è sceso a 1.100Kg come da regolamento FIA, togliendo oltre 500Kg dalla vettura di derivazione stradale. Questo esemplare di 550 GTS è stato costruito nel 2004 ed ha ottenuto il 4° posto di categoria alla 24h di Le Mans dello stesso anno. Ha continuato a correre in vari campionati come il FIA GT e l'ALMS fino a giungere ai giorni nostri dove fortunatamente per noi appassionati è possibile vederlo in azione durante le gare del campionato Endurance Racing Legends organizzato da Petr Auto.
