The Acura MDX has been the benchmark for a luxury three row crossover for years, offering tons of luxury, practicality, and space at an affordable price. With the tough competitors like the Audi Q7 and Lexus TX, is it still at the top? The MDX has a very sporty and stylish design. The newly revised diamond pentagon grill is finished in gloss black, and there is a lot of functional ventilation at the bottom. The headlights are fully LED, and they look very high end and premium. At the side are 20” wheels. They are the same ones that are on the Advance, but finished in gloss black. The trim pieces are all finished in gloss black for a sportier design. The mirrors are fully loaded with heating, blind spot monitoring, auto dimming, and power folding. At the back, the MDX has a sleek and elegant design. There is dual trapezoidal exhaust at the bottom, gloss black trim, and fully LED taillights with a smoked look. The towing capacity is 5,000 pounds. The interior is luxurious, but also has a sporty vibe to it. The seats are made of premium Milano leather, and they have quilting, piping, red contrast stitching, and they have heating, ventilation, massaging, and 16 ways of power adjustment. The steering wheel, exclusively designed for the A-Spec models, has a unique design. It has perforated leather on the sides, metal paddle shifters, a flat bottom, and A-Spec branding. The gauge cluster is fully digital, and includes tons of customization for what information is being displayed and the overall layout. Materials are quite impressive, with real leather across the whole dash and the bottom parts of the cabin, aluminum trim for a sportier look, gloss black, and minimal use of plastic. There are also real metal speaker grills for the standard 19 speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. For storage, the MDX has a decent amount of it with cubbies, large cup holders, a good sized center console, and a massive wireless phone charger. Climate controls are physical buttons and toggles, and they are easy to use as well as high quality feeling. The MDX comes standard with three zones of climate. The metal toggles feel especially expensive and satisfying to operate. For the main infotainment system, the Acura MDX has one of the best in the segment. There is Google built in, so there are apps like Google Maps and Google Assistant, which enhances the system. Also, it is super fast and responsive. There are other features like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is great how Acura went from having one of the worst systems in the segment with the touchpad to one of the best. The backup cameras are high resolution, and there are multiple different angles and views, including a 360 view. Up top is a panoramic sunroof. The second row is quite pleasant. The sunshades on the door are a nice touch, and the seats come equipped with all the usual features like heating and manual adjustments. There’s ample legroom and headroom, but the overall space isn’t particularly luxurious. In terms of amenities, the second row offers a third climate zone, cup holders, USB-C ports, a power outlet, vents, and some storage in the seatbacks and the middle when the seats are folded down. Additionally, the middle seat is completely removable. However, the third row is somewhat disappointing, especially considering that the MDX is the only Acura with this option. While the legroom and headroom should be sufficient for children, the lack of thigh support makes it uncomfortable for adults. For amenities, there are cup holders, a plastic armrest, and USB ports, but unfortunately, there are no vents. The Acura MDX provides ample trunk space. Behind the third row, there’s 16.3 cubic feet of room, which expands to 39.3 cubic feet when the seats are folded down. The maximum trunk capacity is 71 cubic feet. There’s also ample storage under the floor, and the floor lid can flip around to reveal a hard plastic side, which is useful if the trunk contents are messy. Additionally, there’s a power outlet and a button that automatically closes the trunk when everyone is out. Under the hood is a 3.5L V6 putting out 290 horsepower and 267 pound feet of torque. That is mated to a 10 speed automatic transmission, and gets about 21 MPG combined. Would you buy this over the competition? Leave your thoughts in the comments down below.
