Post traumatic stress disorder can reveal itself in patients during surgery, while they are under anesthesia. Furthermore, untreated PTSD may even cause complications. This may include self harm, harm to others, or even worsening anxiety after after anesthesia. This is especially seen in anesthesia for trauma. In this episode, I'll share a dramatic story from a patient with combat experience who had their PTSD, previously undiagnosed, revealed on the operating room table. This is, in part, because of the powerful mind body connection. What goes on in our minds can manifest in our physical body. that's why I connect myself to the life support monitors in this show, so you can see, on my own body, the effect mindset on our physical vital signs.
