How to use the bonker, DIY Dog Training Leash Reactivity

If you are trying to stop an unwanted behavior, you will need to learn to apply proper punishment to the dog in order to stop it. Remember when you are doing this you are not mad, or angry or upset with the dog. It is an emotionally neutral protocol. Lots of folks feel that they will destroy the relationship with the dog, the dog will be hand shy or afraid of the owner. This is not happening if anything you living with a dog that has some serious behavioral issues, like leash reactivity, bad crate manners, rushing the door and barking and jumping and many other behaviors that you do not want. Your relationship is already taxing and stressful for you. What we are seeing over and over again is that a bonker is a fantastic training tool that can eliminate the arousal in dogs (not the drive) and stops so many unwanted behaviors that you are struggling with. It is a great tool to teach the dog what the word NO means and finally have some meaning to the word NO. I am fully aware that some folks are uncomfortable with the concept of the bonking as they feel they are hitting their dog. The dog is not looking at it that way though, you def will be startling the dog and you will get a fear response at the time of bonking. Your dog will recover fast but moving forward your dog will be a little/lot more aware of you as the owner/handler. Once the dog has stopped the unwanted behavior then you can do all of the reward based training to train your dog what you want them to do. So many folks though are trying to reward the dog out of an unwanted behavior, historically all that does is just reinforce the unwanted behavior since you are giving your dog a reward, thinking you will create a positive association with the unwanted behavior and the dog will just start behaving. That philosophy is leaving so many owners struggling and is responsible for the rehoming and surrendering of so many dogs to shelters.
