China-made new heavy-lift multirole helicopter AC313A makes maiden flight

Manufactured by the state-owned aerospace and defence conglomerate Aviation Industry Corp of China (AVIC), the helicopter has been upgraded as part of plans to develop China’s air emergency rescue system. Equipped with a new engine, a greater drive power, longer lifespan and better reliability, the helicopter is designed to complete missions in complex geographical and climate conditions and in areas with extreme temperatures and high altitudes. The AC313A has a maximum take-off weight of 13,800kg (30,424lbs) and can accommodate up to 28 passengers.
