Cloudnine Hospitals, Sarjapur, Bangalore Postpartum haemorrhage is bleeding in excessive amounts post-delivery. The mode of delivery does not matter; it could be a normal delivery or a C-section. This is one red-flag complication that we always look out for. What we usually advise women post-delivery is to observe for bleeding. If it is excessive, they have to report to their doctors. Excessive bleeding post-delivery, feeling giddy, or blackouts post-delivery may be another factor. One more sign of a postpartum haemorrhage is the passage of certain clots or tissues vaginally. Now, how we manage postpartum haemorrhage depends on what is causing it. The most common cause we encounter is atonic postpartum haemorrhage, where the uterus is not contracting the way it is supposed to after delivery. This means we have to aim at contracting the uterus more, either medically or by surgical methods. Another reason for postpartum haemorrhage can be the retention of the products of conception, most often the placenta or membranes, which is why people bleed heavily post-delivery. In this case, we will have to remove these retained products. It could also be coagulation problems with the mother, where the bleeding time or clotting time is affected. In that case, we manage it with blood and blood products. All in all, it depends on the type and reason for the postpartum haemorrhage, and we manage it accordingly. postpartum hemorrhage | excessive bleeding after delivery | signs of postpartum hemorrhage | uterine atony | retained placenta | postpartum hemorrhage treatment | postpartum hemorrhage prevention | postpartum hemorrhage causes | primary postpartum hemorrhage | secondary postpartum hemorrhage | postpartum hemorrhage symptoms | bleeding after childbirth | postpartum care #doctorscircle #childbirthpreparation #postpartum #bleeding #postpartumhealth
