SpaceX's Axiom-4 mission, carrying ISRO astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla, docked at the International Space Station around 4.45 pm IST. The Ax-4 crew successfully lifted off on June 25 into space onboard SpaceX's Dragon aircraft, after nearly a month of delays and postponements. Aboard the spacecraft along with Shukla are mission specialists Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski of Poland and Tibor Kapu of Hungary, and commander Peggy Whitson of the United States, a former NASA astronaut who now works for the company Axiom Space-- which organizes private spaceflights, among other things. Shukla, who is the mission pilot, is India's second astronaut going into space -- four decades after Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma made history in 1984. The 39-year-old fighter pilot was chosen by ISRO as the prime astronaut for this historic flight. The much-anticipated launch of Axiom Mission 4 has finally taken place. After a series of delays caused by weather and technical issues, the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket roared to life in the early hours of Wednesday, carrying four astronauts, including India’s Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, onboard a brand-new Crew Dragon capsule. The mission lifted off at 12:01 PM from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The Axiom Mission 4, or Ax-4, is a private spaceflight mission organized by Axiom Space in partnership with SpaceX and NASA. The mission is headed for the International Space Station, where the crew is scheduled to dock around 7:00 AM on Thursday.
