The spring semester has started and it has many of the staff, who are also college students, thinking about going to campus on a more regular basis again. Going to class sometimes impacts what is on our minds when it comes to interpreting some of the rooms at Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park, such as the blacksmith shop. In this video, Marco, one of our blacksmiths, demonstrates the same blacksmithing methods available in the 1840s at the Fort to make a pencil holder out of some quarter inch steel round stock. Visit Sutter’s Fort on the third Saturday of each month to see the blacksmith shop in operation and many other activities during our Demonstration Days.
