The panel is meant to give a variety of persons involved in the recent election campaign a chance to discuss how issues of gender and sexuality, and assumptions about masculinity and femininity, shaped media and public debates and personal experiences of those involved. Typically, in post-election discussions, emphasis is placed on understanding women’s experiences of election campaigning, and reflecting on the effectiveness of strategies such as a Women’s Manifesto or the women’s cross-party caucus. However, this time, we would like to bring men into the discussion, as well as LGBTI electoral activism, to broaden our understanding of the connections amongst a variety of those seeking office as well as seeking to influence the issues raised in and beyond elections.
