The Portland Pirates were the originators of creative hockey marketing promotions back in the early 90’s with the motto “It's More Than a Game, It's an Experience". “Miss Conduct” was one of the innovative marketing ideas and Steve Buckley from ESPN did a feature story on her. A few months later Gary Thorne and Bill Clement were in the house covering a game against the Cape Breton Oilers and we had the game on the TV in the office that was located behind the penalty boxes. During the second intermission I realized they were playing the feature again. Seizing the opportunity, I ran out of the office and grabbed Cheryl Brown aka “Miss Conduct” by the arm and said, “let’s go!” I made her run around the entire building and up the stairs towards the press box. Seeing us coming up the stairs Gary and Bill knew exactly what to do and had the camera guy already moving to reposition the camera. She arrived with 15 seconds to spare and as the feature ended they went live to the interview with her. Here is the feature and the interview. Some names to look out for include Kevin Kaminski, Jason Christie, Kerry Clark, Andrew Brunette, Stefan Ustorf, Justin Hocking, Brian Curran, Darren Banks, Steve Poapst, John Van Kessel, Kyle Rickett, Dennis Bonvie and of course Bill Clement, Gary Thorne and Cheryl Brown (Miss Conduct).
