First let me say that this is not the best way to go about this, unless you have a vacuum running as you grind. The Dallas DS1287 Real-time-clock (RTC) keeps the date and tine, as well as some memory to save BIOS settings. It has a battery built-in which is dead after 35+ years, so instead of rolling the dice with new-old-stock which likely will also be dead, you can cut into the original to expose the internal battery, disconnect it and solder wires onto the connections to route to an external easily-replaceable battery. Drilling/grinding in-place has the hazard of you slipping and damaging the circuit board, and the shavings will contain conductive metal particles that could lodge somewhere and wreak havoc by shorting something out.
