The Northrop Grumman Tejon Ranch Radar Cross-Section (RCS) Test Facility, located near Rosamond, California, was established in the early 1980s to support the development of stealth technologies. Situated on the slopes of the Tehachapi Mountains, approximately 18 miles west of Rosamond, the facility encompasses over 1,400 acres within the Tejon Ranch. The primary purpose of this secure facility was to test the radar reflectivity of various aerospace designs. It featured multiple outdoor radar test ranges, including two original asphalt ground plane ranges measuring 1,500 and 3,000 feet, respectively. These ranges were equipped with antenna arrays and target positions to evaluate the radar signatures of different aeroforms. In the early 2010s, the facility faced operational challenges due to the construction of nearby solar power arrays and wind turbine towers, which interfered with radar and antenna testing. Consequently, the Tejon Test Complex was forced to close in 2011. Despite its closure, the Tejon Ranch RCS Test Facility played a significant role in advancing stealth technology and radar cross-section testing during its operational years.
