It features 176 high power 5 watt LED emitters for a total nominal power of 880 watts (176 x 5). The SolarStorm 880 has two unique features: A switch to change the spectrum from Veg to Bloom Supplemental built-in UV-B bulbs During Veg, plants require higher levels of blue light and less red light. Plants also generally require less power during the vegetative growth phase. In bloom on the other hand, plants can absorb high levels of red light and generally require higher light intensity. Having the ability to switch your light fixture between Veg and Bloom allows for lush vegetative growth and power savings in Veg mode while maximizing intensity and delivering the best yield in Bloom mode. The SolarStorm 880 also features a unique supplemental UV-B mode which is essential to develop higher potency harvest. The sun naturally contains large amounts of UVB. HID lights do not deliver any significant levels of UVB. No other LED grow light in the market covers the UVB spectrum because LED diodes are narrow band and focus their light in a narrow spectrum. SolarStorm employs unique T8 fluorescent UVB bulbs integrated into the fixture with a separate control. The UVB bulbs are typically turned on during final few weeks or "finishing" phase of the grow cycle to boost the potency of the final harvest. Actual power draw of the SolarStorm 880 depends on which mode the unit is in: In Veg mode, the unit consumes around 475W In Bloom mode, the unit consumes around 650W In Bloom mode with the UVB T8 bulbs turned on, around 680W During an average grow cycle, the SolarStorm 880 will consume about 45% less power compared to a typical 1000W HPS or MH system while delivering excellent results. The SolarStorm 880 is designed to cover a 4' x 4' area for bloom. To get a good spread, you want to position the light approximately 20"-30" above your canopy. For Vegetative growth, the SolarStorm 880 can cover an area of up to 7' x 7'. In this case you want to position the light about 6' above your plants. The SolarStorm 880 is designed to replace a 1000W HPS or Metal Halide system. It is great for large size grow operations. It can be used on a light mover to cover larger areas and get even better results.
