Looking for an honest take on Puerto Escondido, Mexico? This video covers everything from the beautiful beaches to the incredible food scene that many tourists seem to miss. We explored Puerto Angelito and Carrizalillo beaches, tested out the famous 200-step hike, and discovered that swimming conditions vary dramatically between locations. The motorcycle rental situation is pricier than Asia but totally worth it for getting around the coastal areas. The real highlight was the food hunt. Despite online complaints about Puerto Escondido's dining scene, we found amazing spots like El Viejo's smoked fish tacos, Pepe's famous coconut-crusted tacos (which moved due to gentrification), and Tacos Paco's incredible shrimp tacos with consommé. Each place had its own story and seriously good flavors. We also checked out the coffee scene at Amarisa in La Punta, compared different neighborhoods from Centro to Zicatela, and talked about how the new 3-hour route from Oaxaca City is changing tourism patterns in the area. The weather was typical for late August rainy season, but we managed to pack in beach time, motorcycle rides, and plenty of taco stops. This isn't Tulum or the Mayan Riviera - Puerto Escondido has its own laid-back Pacific coast vibe that's still very much rooted in local culture. Perfect for anyone considering a trip to Mexico's Pacific coast or wondering what Puerto Escondido is really like beyond the surf scene.
