Known in English under many names, The Tongfather, The Notorious Bandit, Hands of Death was one of many Kung Fu films from Hong Kong cinema brought to English audiences by Terry Levene through his company Aquarius Releasing. The distributor was active from the 1960's into the video era of the 1980s and focused on genre pieces; horror, kung fu, and exploitation films. Levene was notorious himself for the distribution of Deep Throat (1972), one of the first pornographic films to feature a plot. Levene was more of a marketer then distributor, capitalizing on branding and shock to promote his releases. Still Levene brought a spotlight to many films that would otherwise have gone unnoticed due to Hollywoods dominates in the domestic box office.
