When Did the Attention Seeker Kid Cross the Line? One student nearly killed her own parents just to stay in the spotlight. Zoey didn’t just seek attention—she built her entire personality around it. Some kids act out once in a while. Zoey made it her routine. If she wasn’t crying in the counselor’s office, she was on crutches with no cast, or claiming she fainted in the hallway because her blood sugar “suddenly dropped.” At first, people gave her the benefit of the doubt. But over time, even the most patient teachers started hesitating before asking, “Are you okay?” We called her “Emergency Zoey” when she wasn’t around. Not out of cruelty—just because everything in her life always seemed like a headline. One week she came in claiming she had temporary hearing loss. The next, she said her cousin’s emotional support dog bit her, and she was dealing with trauma. I wish I was making that up. But all of it hit a new level during our senior trip. It was supposed to be a relaxing weekend—three days at a mountain lodge with hiking, late-night bonfires, and a casual talent show. Everyone was excited, especially after a stressful semester. A week before the trip, Zoey posted a dramatic update on her story. A photo of her arm in a sling, her face pale and eyes red, with a caption: “My parents are still in the hospital. Car accident. I’m the only one who walked away.” The comments exploded. People flooded her DMs with prayers and concern. Some told her to skip the trip. She said her parents begged her to go. They didn’t want their little girl to miss her last school trip. When the trip began, she boarded the bus slowly, wrapped in a blanket, holding a heating pad to her shoulder. She sat up front like a wounded soldier being escorted to safety. Teachers made sure she didn’t have to walk too far or lift anything. Some of the girls in our group skipped the hike just to stay with her, thinking she might need help. She kept saying things like, “I miss my parents so much, but they wanted me here. I just hope my arm doesn’t dislocate again.” At the talent show, Zoey was scheduled to do a spoken word piece about resilience. She handed it off to another girl last minute, saying the painkillers made her too dizzy to stand. People clapped for her anyway. Her friend read the piece while Zoey sat wrapped up in the audience, softly dabbing her eyes. The next morning, our group decided to explore before breakfast and wandered near the lake. There we saw Zoey alone by the water, phone propped on a rock, and she was making dancing reels—both arms fully extended andmoving smoothly through spins and waves. We just stayed quiet in disbelief and recorded her from a distance. That evening, during the farewell campfire, the teachers played a highlight reel of the trip. Everyone laughed seeing their goofy clips, the hikes, the games, the campfire stories. But right before the end, a short clip rolled without warning. There was Zoey dancing at the lake. Moving freely like her shoulder had never been injured. Everyone was stunned and looked confused. Then a few kids started laughing and someone said, “She’s such a fraud.” Zoey's face turned pale and she rushed to her cabin. Someone shouted, “I bet her parents’ injuries are fake too,” and then many started booing her. When we got back from the trip, her locker was already cleared out. No messages or dramatic story. And her Instagram was gone. Her parents had come to take her out of school. Someone joked, she probably told her new school that she had to transfer because of a some tried to kidnap her. Still can’t understand how some people will do anything, no matter how low, just to stay in the spotlight. #shorts #storytime #attentionseeker #schooldrama #caughtlying
