Working with the VP of Infosecurity at Tessian, I demonstrate how cybercriminals use open-source intelligence to create highly targeted and highly effective phishing emails that can establish a foothold for company-wide ransomware attacks. I show you what a skilled attacker can achieve in less than 2 hours with information available to anyone who knows where to look. Finally, I discuss some practical steps for defending against this kind of attack. This video demonstrates how I could launch an attack against my friends at Tessian (https://tessian.com). Earlier this year I worked with them on a research paper, 'How to Hack a Human' (available to download for free at https://www.tessian.com/research/how-..., during which they asked me if I'd be willing to demonstrate some of the open-source intelligence and phishing techniques I discussed for their customers. This video is the result and shows how the right information in the wrong hands can deliver malware, Cobalt Strike beacons, and ultimately ransomware, straight into the heart of an organisation. If you found this useful, you can hear me discuss this further on Episode 7 of the RE:Human Layer Security podcast https://www.tessian.com/human-layer-s...
