That story pulled us all the way to Uganda, through the chaos of the city, past red-dirt roads and waving kids, and into the misty hills where coffee grows under banana trees. We came with skepticism in our mugs and curiosity on our tongues. But what started as a casual visit to a so-called “inferior” coffee farm quickly became a full-blown reckoning. Turns out, everything we thought we knew about robusta coffee was wrong. But this isn't just a story about coffee, it's about a place, the people, and the power of showing up with an open mind. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of explorers, modern-day documentarians, and cultivators of curiosity. We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us. Things We're Most Curious About... GETTING OFF-GRID Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. So self-reliance and sustainable living are a must. We've learned heaps about renewable energy, managing waste, creating safe drinking water and foraging for food. We carefully manage our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so. TALKING TO STRANGERS People are busy (even on remote islands) and travelers are a dime a dozen. It takes time to talk to strangers, and even more time to have a real connection. Going the extra mile to get to know someone is a commitment. Which is why these are our most treasured experiences. Setting off into the world with curiosity as our guide and nature as our compass. We talk to strangers and accept hospitality without fear or reservations. Both giving and receiving. ALTERNATIVE LIVING These are people who are doing things differently. Forgoing the mainstream, seeking freedom and living on the margins. Creative, unique and inspiring people who challenge our ideas of home and community. Our journey is ever-evolving but the mission remains the same: #CultivateCuriosity Timestamps if you like to Jump Around: 00:00 Why Visit Uganda? 01:19 Living on a Banana & Coffee Farm 03:26 Driving in Uganda 07:24 Our Coffee Farmhouse 09:46 Security in Uganda 11:26 First Taste of Robusta as Espresso 15:40 Farming Wild Coffee 20:04 Sustainable Coffee 22:54 Why Ugandan’s Raise Cattle 24:27 The Origin of Robusta Coffee 26:31 Sun Dried Natural, Honey and Washed Process 31:51 Growing Better Baby Coffee Trees 32:15 Proper Storage – The Final Stage 33:12 The Rural Farming Village 35:30 Source of Everything – Protected Water 36:47 Coffee Forest to Bananas and Tobacco 37:52 Sunset in the Mountains 39:23 Morning Robusta as a French Press 40:41 Final Thoughts on Arabica vs Robusta ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #Travel #BoatLife #LifeStyle #Sailboat © Gone With the Wynns 2025
