Today we're going to explore Nintendo's history in the Chinese video gaming market during the video game console ban in China during the early 2000s. Join me as we look at rapid historical change in China, how it affected Nintendo, the thriving video game black markets and networks of Chinese bootleg video games and pirated games, and a country-unique console called the iQue Player. This video covers bootleg video games on the NES and famicom, the iQue Player that was a Chinese-exclusive console from Nintendo, the speedrunning advantage that came with that console, Jackie Chan's role in advertising for a Chinese Famiclone company called Subor, and so much more. NOTE: I should also mention something I didn't explicitly mention in the video was that MANI (the Chinese toy company that helped release Chinese Gameboys) also helped Nintendo distribute Famicoms and Super Nintendos in Hong Kong, but these didn't sell very well and the distribution never really expanded into mainland China. These consoles are still floating around and are super cool variants to stumble on. In fact, Hong Kong has it's own, sort of separate universe of region-specific Nintendo releases that I didn't get into, as this was a region sort of isolated from the story, but you can learn more about in this great video by Akfamilyhome here: • A History of Nintendo's Hong Kong Releases I've been experimenting with longer, story-type videos and would love to know your thoughts and feedback on this video style. Let me know if this is something that you'd want to see more of. And if for whatever reason you were inclined to read the entire description, I want to sincerely thank you for taking the time to watch this video and hope that you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed researching and bringing it to life for you. subscribe: / johnnybone follow my twitter if you want: / liljohnnybone Timestamps: 0:00 Intro 1:09 Part I: A Storm Brews 3:56 Part II: Counterfeit Chaos 6:28 Part III: Bootleg Games 11:50 Part IV: Mass Hysteria 12:44 Part V: The Ban 14:18 Part VI: New Plans 16:07 Part VII: The iQue 19:50 Part VIII: Failure 23:48 Part IX: Downward Spirals 26:20 Part X: Where Are They Now?
