The Miami defense dominated from start to finish, Jakobe Thomas picked off 2 passes- taking one back 60 yards to the house, Carson Beck tossed 3 touchdown passes- 2 to freshman Malachi Toney, fellow frosh Girard Pringle Jr. ran for over 100 yards in his 1st career start, and the Miami Hurricanes played their most complete game of the season to blow out NC State 41-7 on Senior Day at Hard Rock Stadium. How dominant were the Hurricanes? Miami out-gained NC State 586-143, 214-23 on the ground, and keeping them scoreless until very late in the game with the reserves on the field. NC State did not cross into Miami territory until almost the 2:00 mark of the 3rd quarter, and that was helped out by a questionable pass interference call on the Hurricanes. Thomas’ 2 interceptions of CJ Bailey- who is from South Florida- were his 1st of the season, and they came at the perfect time them with starting CB O.J. Frédérique and all-world nickel back Keionte Scott both out with injuries. Beck hit Toney with scoring passes from 14 yards and 15 yards and TE Elijah Lofton with another from 29 yards out, Marty Brown ran one in from a yard out, and Carter Davis hit 2 field goals for Miami. Beck went 21-27 for 291 yards, 3 touchdowns and no interceptions- including a streak of 13 straight completions- in one of his best performances of the season. Pringle Jr. ran for 116 yards on just 17 carries to lead the Miami rushing attack, as the offensive line pushed the NC St. defense all over the field. Beck was not sacked. Keelan Marion led the Miami receiving corps with 7 catches for 96 yards. Toney grabbed 5 for 54 and the 2 scores, and also added a 43-yard pass to JoJo Trader. Brown’s 1st-half fumble was the 1st lost fumble for Miami this season. ***** 'LIVE' Instant Reaction from University of Miami Alum Jim "GRIES" Grieshaber with Special Guest & fellow UM Alum Alex Donno, host of Locked On Canes ----- Miami will head back out on the road next week to face Virginia Tech on Saturday, with kickoff time TBD from Blacksburg, Virginia.
