Chavignol long has honored the traditions of music, dance and song - along with costume - in France. Primary to such integrity is the support group aligned with such work through the Dubois Family energy over many generations. Andre Dubois has given over the work he inherited from his own Papa to his son Giles and his wife Martine. In this video, made during a visit in 2006 to Chavignol, Martine and Giles are dancing with me and Pamela Moulton while her husband, Alban Maino controls the camera. Mr. Bob Willoughby is our fiddler playing a rare old Southern tune called "Indian Nation". Such a simple environment, and good company around dear friends - this is what traditional dance is really all about. It's essence here is complimented by a figure called the "Two Leaf Clover" which comes from the calling of Raymond Peak who called dances and was the builder of a community dance tradition in the Swannanoa River Valley of NC, USA, near Asheville. He called his dance hall the "Farmer's Ball". There's more to tell but the community picked it all back up again in the 1980's. It's now the largest continuing dance community dance in America. (Thanks again to Alban Maino for taking time to video this simple pleasurable dance in France.)
