July 1943 the battle started with heavy artillery fire by both sides, using mass of multiple rocket launchers for the first time. as the Soviet Katyusha, and the German Vielfachwerferauf Panzerwerfer 42 along with heavy artillery guns providing the ultimate firepower to spread the panic all over the battle field of both sides. The battle of kursk rages day and night no stop, with the biggest amount of tanks ever assembled in history for both sides. 3000 medium and heavy tanks by the Germans, and 6000 medium and heavy tanks by the Soviets. The battle took its place over the vast fields of Kursk, which is a great killing ground for tank warfare. After 2 weeks of the start the casualties were over a million for both sides, and thousands of tanks are burning, but the Allies landing in Italy forced the German commanders to recall the attack and retreat towards Italy to reclaim it.
