What are the consequences of Climate Change? In this video, the biologist Jubilut will show you that the consequences of global warming are already hitting us, and if we don't fight the problem, they will get more and more intense. Many places in the world are dealing with extreme climate change events such as droughts, fires, floods, heat waves, cyclones, storms, hurricanes and sea level rise. Rising global temperatures, more frequent heat waves, and droughts increase the likelihood of wildfires because they encourage these hot, dry conditions, promoting fire weather. In addition, the sea level is rising because of climate change. The ice on the continents is melting because of global warming, and that melted water is reaching the oceans. The decrease in the albedo effect with the melting of glaciers is also a concern, as it causes a positive feedback that increases global warming. Our production of carbon dioxide (CO2) causes ocean acidification, and this harms the growth of corals and all the marine life that depends on these environments, such as fish. Other events linked to rising ocean temperatures are hurricanes, which, despite not increasing in number in recent years, are increasing in destructive power, with a greater number of Category 4 or 5 hurricanes being the most devastating. Several coastal cities are already taking steps to deal with the consequences of climate change over the next 20 or 30 years. One example is Boston, in the United States, which is raising the bar on its streets and requiring that new condominiums have barriers against waves. But this structural change is so expensive that many cities will not have enough money to carry out these major works. In the next video of the WebSérie Changes Climate you will understand what these changes are causing in Brazil, and what is the forecast for the coming years.
