The garment sewn in this video is oriented toward practical comfort; yet it holds a poetic aesthetic that feels gorgeous to my eyes. The finished piece does not tick the boxes that most men expect to see in order to label a look “attractive.” To me, this demonstrates how “attractiveness” is often defined through a sexual parameter, along with the assumption that this definition is universal. In contrast, according to my taste — and perhaps yours — the final result is very attractive. This perceived quality reveals alternative parameters for defining attractiveness, and it marks a step closer to using clothing primarily for my own enjoyment. A step toward female agency. On another note, I show an awesome way to hack a button placket to any sewing patterns. This way of proceeding is versatile and can be adapted to any button size you want to sew on a garment. I have put time stamps below to help you find the section you specifically want. But before you watch — if you’re anything like me and suffer from a completely harmless yet deeply serious fabric addiction — you’re about to spiral into the glorious pile of linen I’m using for this patchwork project. I’m obsessed with fabrics, and sewing a bunch of them together is weirdly, wildly satisfying. Truly. It’s therapy. It’s chaos. It’s art. So if that sounds like you… just watch the whole damn thing. No self-control necessary.
