Identity, a documentary of Milan Kundera and Prague

This is a documentary I produced this semester for my course project. Centered on the theme of Czech identity, I chose Milan Kundera — a writer who is both widely known and deeply unfamiliar. Filmed entirely in Prague, the documentary weaves together archival materials in Czech, French, and English. It is made in memory of my favorite author, and in homage to his most persistent preoccupation — the tension between attachment and escape, and the ever-present “voice of return” he could never completely silence: a call he knew to be false, yet could never fully resist. The film is not only a tribute to Kundera, but also a renewed inquiry into the fate of Central Europe, the crushing weight of history, and the fragile space of individual freedom.
