Advancing with Watercolor: Technique - Graded Washes

In this demonstration I make wide use of the graded wash to communicate the qualities of morning light falling on the Campo at San Margarita in Venice. In doing the first washes I set up the transition in the sky, buildings and foreground. Then in the second wash I start to create the shadows falling off the buildings.
