The war has damaged or destroyed thousands of schools in Ukraine. One of them is the school in Bohodukhiv in eastern Ukraine, just 18 kilometres from the Russian border. Yet learning continues—mostly online and, sometimes when possible, in person. In Bohodukhiv we met 10-year-old twins, Misha and Masha. School is a lifeline for children who need routine and safety amid the chaos. Finn Church Aid (FCA) refurbishes and equips school bomb shelters so in-person teaching can continue, and trains teachers and school psychologists to provide psychosocial support. Masha Kuzmenko, 10: “Today I feel brave because my teachers, mum and dad support me. At school I feel safe because teachers can support us; they can calm us when we’re afraid—reminding us that we’re in the shelter.” Misha Kuzmenko, 10: “I wish the war would end and we could return to school.”
