This is a very special video. Remembering the biggest tusker of Kalawewa National Park, The death of Rewatha. Kalawewa National Park is one that is gifted to all those who love nature and wildlife. Declared as a national park recently when compared to the other distinguished national parks in Sri Lanka, this protected nature reserve acts as a resident ground to many, among which wild elephants & wild tuskers are a highlight many come here to see for themselves. However, a point that cannot be left aside is the fact that due to human actions itself, these wild animals are forced to move into the nearby villages in search of food. Thus resulting the hugely debated human-elephant conflict. The latest victim of this issue is Rewatha. This magnificent specimen was a legendary tusker known to be the largest tusker within the reserve during his prime. Estimated to be over 9 feet tall and over 50 years old, this giant unfortunately fell victim to an illegally drawn electric fence that was placed across a field farmed by a villager. Finding for a meal the tusker had stepped into the village, at which instance he was chased away by the villages but amidst the commission the tusker had fallen in contact with the live electric fence which claimed the life of the King on the scene on 09th March 2021.
