Jonathan and I were friends who used to play music together and skate. As an adolescent looking to be identified as something more than just a dorky kid I found myself aspiring to be like Jonathan who was a huge influence into my artistry those years. A welcoming individual showing me what new music was out there and to make efforts to find some of the bands that were not necessarily known at the time. After high school we certainly fell out of touch and found myself exploring different sounds and visuals as an artist. In the back of my mind, however, I've always had the idea of what it would be like to connect with some of those childhood friends in making a record. Embarrassingly enough Facebook was one of those resources lol and found myself reconnecting with Jonathan. Some of his compositions were incredible and were only released on video. I had asked him if he had any songs that I could write over in which he did, but only on video format. This approach to collaboration was going to be different as I had only a video to work off of. I decided to record the video on Cassette Tape and used my Tascam Porta 03. The setup goes like this Channel 1 = Guitar (Jonathan) / Pan Left Channel 2 = Baritone (Art) / Pan Right With this setup you can hear two different worlds meshing as the left channel has some ambient background noise and the right channel responding to the composition. Its a bit gritty, but I think this shows the honesty of both worlds. #cassette #tascam #cassetterecording #cassetterecorder
