To introduce the theme of the ride, I have come up with a news story that would be posted somewhere along the queue: --------------------------------------------------------- CURSE AT FIRE CAVERNS: A HOT SUBJECT Nov. 17, 1903 Recent tragedies at the legendary Fire Caverns have persons from even the most distant lands stirring. The question on everyone's mind: are the stories true? Certainly it cannot be argued that disaster has struck these caverns ever since the opening of the Fire Caverns Railroad; however, can we necessarily place the blame on folk legend, or should we place the blame on coincidence? Regardless, Fire Caverns Railroad Chairman I. Bern remains optimistic in light of these recent tragedies. "We've all heard the legend," he said in a recent interview. "I can assure you, however, that this curse does not exist. I have, in fact, hired a team of experts to investigate these circumstances and prove once and for all that these disturbances are due to mere geological conditions." Bern concluded his interview by offering any brave adventurer a free trip on the railroad throughout the month. "It's a shame people believe so strongly in this curse; these caverns are a real wonder. There's even talks of a priceless treasure." Whether this treasure is a reality or a publicity stunt will only be answered with time. Despite the Chairman's statements, there are those who still believe in this legendary curse. When asked about these recent tragedies, one famous local anthropologist, Professor Nathan Furno, seemed grim. "The legends are true," he says," I have witnessed them firsthand. The presence of any human inside the protected Tomb of Despair is enough to set off an evil rampage: water turned to fire, earthquakes, underwater volcano eruptions, and most unfortunately human sacrifice." Amongst this fanfare of doom, Furno warns visitors not to tempt the curse. "Stay out of Fire Caverns! There is no treasure within its walls; there is only destruction." Amongst so much deliberation, it is difficult to see who is right and who is wrong. Is this legendary curse real, or are we witnessing unfortunate "geological conditions"? If and when these questions are answered, count on us to have the story first!
