Close-up of bags STORYLINE: The Sydorenko family survived the train station attack in Kramatorsk in Ukraine by chance. The taxi that was supposed to take them to the station on Friday was late, so they waited for another one. The second taxi dropped them at the station three minutes after the attack. "We saw burning cars, burning remains of the missile and people who were fleeing from there," said Ivan Sydorenko, a worker at a factory in Kramatorsk. Ivan survived with his wife and daughter, after having arrived at Lviv train station on Saturday evening after a long journey from Kramatorsk to Dnipro by bus, and then to Pokrovsk where they got the train to Lviv. Ivan said there were about 2,000 people at Kramatorsk train station on Thursday, a day before the explosion. "There were a lot of people who were trying to flee on the evacuation train the day before. Around 2,000 people were inside the station and at the platforms," he said. A missile hit the Kramatorsk train station where thousands had gathered on Friday, killing at least 52 and wounding dozens more in an attack on a crowd of mostly women and children trying to flee a new, looming Russian offensive, Ukrainian authorities said. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy demanded a tough global response to Friday's train station attack, calling it the latest sign of war crimes by Russian forces and hoping to prod Western backers to step up their response to help his country defend itself. Russia denied it was responsible and accused Ukraine's military of firing on the station to try to turn blame for civilian slayings on Moscow. =========================================================== Clients are reminded: (i) to check the terms of their licence agreements for use of content outside news programming and that further advice and assistance can be obtained from the AP Archive on: Tel +44 (0) 20 7482 7482 Email: [email protected] (ii) they should check with the applicable collecting society in their Territory regarding the clearance of any sound recording or performance included within the AP Television News service (iii) they have editorial responsibility for the use of all and any content included within the AP Television News service and for libel, privacy, compliance and third party rights applicable to their Territory.
